Your global divorce solicitor in London

Based in the internationally-renowned city of London, here at Saracens Solicitors, we have an eye on the world. We don’t only help UK nationals; our clients are from all over the globe.

This includes divorcing couples from outside the EU who have come to the UK. Settling into a new country and culture is a huge step to take for any couple, and sometimes it just doesn’t work out. One partner may miss their homeland too much to really feel at home or the demands of the partners establishing themselves in a new country may mean that they drift apart.

If your visa and right to remain in the UK is dependent on your spouse and your marriage ends, it means you will need to reapply for a new type of visa once your divorce goes through.

As an experienced divorce solicitor in London, we can help. We have many multi-lingual lawyers here, with knowledge of a range of different cultures and customs.

What are your visa options?

One is to apply to remain in the UK independently. Once your divorce is final, you inform the Home Office that you have separated from your partner and they will assess whether you meet the criteria to remain in the UK. If you’ve been a UK resident for 10 years or more, there’s a good chance you’ll be granted a permanent visa. Those under 65 are required to pass a Life in the UK and English language test.

If you have children, you could apply as a parent of children who are resident in the UK.

If you work in a job that is on the occupational shortage list (such as engineering or medicine) you can ask your employer to sponsor you to remain on a work visa.

These are just some of the ways you can apply to remain in the UK after divorce, there are others. Have a talk with us and as your divorce solicitor in London, we’ll guide you through the application that is likely to be the most successful for you. We have years’ worth of experience in dealing with the UK Home Office and we’ll be here with you every step of the way.
