Sonay studied Law at Queen Mary University before completing an LLM in Medical Law also at Queen Mary. She later went on to complete the legal practice course at University of Law. After completing her studies, Sonay joined Saracens Solicitors in February 2018 as a Litigation and Personal Injury Paralegal. She started her training contract with Saracens in August 2019.
Sonay is a Litigation and Personal Injury Trainee Solicitor. She works closely with both the litigation and personal injury teams. She has gained valuable experience in property litigation, defamation, commercial litigation, multi-track personal injury claims, road traffic accidents and clinical negligence claims. Within the litigation team, she has been involved in a number of successful high-profile defamation cases as well as cases determining whether the transfer of a sum of money was a loan or a gift. Within the personal injury team, she has assisted the team in a number of successful claims involving severe injuries. She has an enthusiasm for advocacy and carried out her first advocacy as a trainee successfully obtaining a stay of possession proceedings and permission to appeal in an ex parte application.
Sonay is an active member of the Junior Lawyers Division. She is a Committee Member for the Surrey Junior Lawyers Division and a member of the London Young Lawyers Group.
In her spare time, Sonay enjoys running, yoga and cycling. She also has a passion for mental health awareness and gender equality, in particular in the legal profession.
