We live in a small world. The Earth may span many thousands of miles, with massive continents separated by vast oceans, but as far as the global community goes, connection between different peoples and cultures is easier than ever.
Here at Saracens Solicitors, we consider ourselves international lawyers. We know that trade, property and private lives often cross the boundaries of nations. Our multi-lingual lawyers are geared up to work in a variety of lands, including the Middle East, the Americas, the Caribbean, the Pacific region and south Asia.
As well as covering commercial transactions, our global reach also extends to divorce. If you have come to the UK with your spouse from outside the EU and your marriage hasn’t worked out, as your divorce solicitor in London, we can help. We know how frightening it can be: as well as having to deal with all the draining emotional and practical aspects of divorce, your right to stay in the place that you’ve called home for years is now at risk.
There are a variety of ways you can apply to stay in the UK, depending on your individual circumstances.
Indefinite leave to remain
If you have been in the UK for 10 years or more, you can apply for indefinite leave to remain. This isn’t the same as being granted citizenship, you keep your original passport, but it does mean that you don’t have to apply for a visa again and you can come and go from the UK as you please.
If you have dependent children under 18 who live in the UK, you can apply for a visa to stay here as their guardian. They must either be British citizens, have permanently settled in the UK or have lived in the UK for at least 7 years.
If you work, you can ask your employer to sponsor you. This is only relevant for those with occupations on the shortage list, including: physical scientists, engineers, specialist IT managers, designers and analysts and various medical professionals.
There are other routes: as your divorce solicitor in London, we are here to help you navigate immigration law and find the right visa option for you.
