Immigration Paralegal

A law firm based in London’s west end with is seeking to appoint paralegal who has an interest in immigration and human rights law. The role will suit legal under-graduates / post-graduates and/ or LPC graduates with a desire to gain further experience in this field of law. The selected candidates will shadow and support the team with their casework.  

Substantive experience will be provided and upon successfully completing a six- eight month probation and having demonstrated their competence, commitment and ambition the right candidate will be considered for a trainee solicitor position with the firm. 

Role specification

Shadowing/assisting solicitors on a daily basis

Conducting legal research 

Attending Tribunal and Court hearings (as appropriate) 

Preparing and collating bundles 

Drafting correspondence and legal documents 

Attending and taking minutes at client and team meetings 

Completing application forms 

General administrative duties 

Early file responsibility and client contact where appropriate 

Essential requirements  

2:1 undergraduate degree from UK or overseas university.  

Fluency in a foreign language (particularly: Mandarin or Cantonese) 

Clear & effective communication skills in oral and written English 

Minimum 6 months relevant paralegal experience (preferably in immigration law) 

Ability to take instruction from senior team members 

Ability to organise, multi-task and prioritise own workload 

Ability to demonstrate excellent time management skills 

Ability to conduct research, both legal and evidential 

Strong research skills 

Mature, proactive, hard-working, self-motivated, eager to learn 

Ability to use IT systems, and acquire new IT skills as required 

Team player 

Desirable requirements 

Previous experience of working in a law firm 

Postgraduate legal studies 

Legal Practice Course / GDL commendation or distinction obtained in England or Wales (predicted or achieved) 

Other foreign languages (particularly: Russian, Polish, Spanish, Turkish).
